(Washington DC) There is a new art market sprouting in the Edgewood Neighborhood in Northeast DC. It is the home to our "From Edgewood to the Edge of the World" mural. The neighborhood is changing daily. When you walk down my street, you see that residents are planting more flowers, fixing up their porches, new folks and businesses moving into empty houses. And now with the new trail that connects the place with the rest of the city for the bikers and pedestrians, more and more people visit the neighborhood from the surrounding areas. On June 5th, there will be an official trail opening event, so there will be a lot of people in the area. Take advantage of it to market your artwork!

This weekend was filled with artistic expression, not just from myself but other talented beings.

Thanks to an invite from a lovely friend I had a chance to see the play "For Colored Girls," which was presented by Trigger Hippie Productions. This was their first production and rendition of Ntozake Shange's, "For Colored Girls who considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf!" It was truly engaging. Seven women had a chance to share seven stories of pain, triumph and self love. I particularly loved their wardrobe, full of very vibrant colors all colors of the rainbow and their ear rings were beautiful. The jeweler was there but we couldn't seem to track her down. To me their clothing emphasized the beauty, power and strength within their hearts, which were alternately filled with a plethora of trials and tribulations.
Sunday Lyrics and Lace rounded off the weekends happenings. I got up, spit a couple of poems and said my piece. Solsis put me on the spot, calling me up right after intermission. Mad Love :)  But I was ready!! The room was full of lovely folk!

Ashley Logan comes strong in this poem; questioning the methods in which some take advantage of Opportunity!

Opportune

Said he wanted to start clean like having his credit score wiped out and starting again...

But we all make mistakes and if we rewind and cleaned the slates, we would not have gained the stain of discipline...

We wouldn’t work so diligent to right our wrongs...

And our wrongs would be accepted, responsibilities neglected, because we would know that our weakness was not a flaw because the ability to wipe it all clean without effort... would make us appear strong...

Never corrected...

Crippling us..

Restricting us...Permitting us to be pathetic and ridiculous...

Individuals...

Thoughtless, faultless...left with no residuals...

Accept the place you are without no complacency for the situation...

No one said you had to be satisfied with your current state...but effortless recommendations brings ruin and and confusion...

Birthing a life of deformation...

If you chose not to fight for change...

Then change remains frozen, never growing...because change without motion is simply staying the same...

A difference can’t occur without your permission...

And if you find yourself unsatisfied with life’s conditions...

By all means change it...

Don’t like the furniture of circumstance...by all means re-arrange it...

Just don’t complain as if complaining has the ability to change it...because it doesn’t...

Wishful thinking brings temporary relief but its the will and action that maintains it and brings it forth to the becoming...

Thoughts are birth and the head to a plan

But without legs and feet...there’s no way either can stand...

So given age, we are responsible for where we stand in life with no fingers pointed or blame to pursue...

We can’t live life as if opportunity is to cater to us, but we are to come to opportunity in preparation asking “Opportunity, how can I serve you”?

This is our location for our Grounded Visions Project (July 10-Aug. 24 Saturdays)!! This is at the intersection of Georgia & Columbia (3012 Georgia Avenue). A 6 week interactive design project where 10-15 youth will have the chance to develop and execute a mural. With the guidance of prominent artists and muralist we will make this wall pop in a few months. Find out how to get involved!

A little more info on the mural project!

Yesterday was mother's day! I definitely wished my mother a blessed day, but I truly wish I could have been near her. :) awz.

Any who, I was able to work on a mural, in the sun, with cool people and then I got a little creative myself at home, with a bit of oil, spray paint and creativity. I'm telling you, as I'm growing older I'm definitely learning more about appreciation for the simple, simple things in life:: Like my words, your words, my actions, your actions, my eye contact and your eye contact :: Human beings have very interesting ways about them!

Through self discipline & prayer I attempt live as righteous as possible though.

Exposing!

P.S. and Just because I blog doesn't mean I don't work. Check it!

So these past few days have been interesting. Yes very interesting. Interactions with organizations and people have been a blessing. Underground Tree Projects is moving full force ahead. Sure certain resources are in lack but as we are seeing we are at favor, what we need has been coming to us.

Updates: Our curriculum is in full swing with development. Our mural location is on lock, our artists are coming together. Marketing clients from Texas, California, DC, North Carolina and Oklahoma are taking advantage of our services.

I saw Staceyann Chin a month ago and I put this short little clip together. Please check it.

April, 29: Took a brief moment finding the location but I did and man did I have fun! It's been a while since I've been around such talented artists and to add to it I had a chance to add a little bit of my own touch. We all drew our own hand in support of DC Voting rights! Thanks Albus Cavus! Check out the mural located in the Rhode Island Shopping Center.
