Ashley Logan uses her powers of creativity for good. She graces the stage in many forms: as a public speaker, a poet and an author, sprinkling a bit of knowledge on audiences all around the DC area. Ashley had an early start, unlike most. Her father bought her a typewriter at the age of 6 and she says that definitely spawned her love for writing poetry. Ashley also wants her children to have an early start, thus the reason why she says she wrote her first book.
In the book, Logan touches on many struggles and battles that she's dealt with in her life.
UTP: Book details::
A: The title of my book is "Heart of a Servant, Flesh of a Sinner". This is a book of poetry, but it dealt with so many of my battles growing into a woman. I wanted to please God so much, but I would get caught up in my flesh, with men, sex, partying, drinking... and you can even say etc., because the list goes on. This book really displays my struggle and my passion to serve God in the midst of my weakness. I just wanted people to know that what they were reading is going to be edgy, but it's also going to be tasteful and inspiring and good for the soul.
"I really wrote it for my future kids, just to let them know that if they stick to their dreams, it can be accomplished."

UTP: Where is your motivation pulled from?
A: The motivation for my poetry is the youth. I understand how peer pressure is, I understand all of that, but its also for the adults, because I was dealing with some adult issues. The message is deliverance, whatever situation you're in, find your own sense of deliverance and walk into it.
UTP: What is the biggest struggle as an artist?
A: The biggest struggle as an artist to me is staying true to the art and not letting people put you in a box. After my book released, it caught a lot of eyes of churches, which was a great thing. But I started crafting my words so that they could only be read in settings such as church, because that is where I did most of my events and book signings. I like to be raw and naked, in a tasteful way, and I find that sometimes it may not fit what the church want, but it's what someone lost in the streets may need to hear. And if I have to come to the people on the streets raw, I will, to get on their turf. I can't necessarily care what the church may think. Deliverance is all the same to me.
A bit of advice from the poet:: My lasting words to any artist would be to protect your work and know that there are so many avenues to take your work. You don't have to be confined to do things as they always have been done. Do something that's going to make you stand out as an artist, and have someone follow the revolution you created.
